Mechanical Properties and Residual Stress Measurement of TiN/Ti Duplex Coating Using HiPIMS TiN on Cold Spray Ti

This study investigated the mechanical properties and residual stress of high-power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) titanium nitride (TiN) thin film capping on cold spray (Ti) coating. TiN/Ti duplex coating was deposited Ti substrate, prepared in three cases with different numbers layers. The determined Young’s modulus, hardness, roughness TiN coatings by nano-indentation AFM. measurement conducted using ring-core drilling method. A focused ion beam (FIB) drilled various milling depth steps. corresponding images were obtained a scanning electron microscope (SEM). relationship between surface deformations relaxation after each step digital image correlation (DIC) results showed exhibited excellent properties, stresses not significantly changing substrates, showing feasibility technology for future applications aerospace industry.
